Antique Victorian French Jet choker, featuring a large black glass faceted pendant hanging from a beautiful black velvet ribbon. The necklace is designed to be worn around the neck in a bow.
French jet is a black glass used in the later Victorian era to emulate Whitby Jet. Black jewellery became popular after Prince Albert died and Queen Victoria went into mourning. Jet jewellery was the was the mandatory mourning dress code.
MEASUREMENTS
The drop of the necklace measures 4.4cm / 1.7" in height and 1.5cm / 0.5" in width. The velvet ribbon measures 91cm / 36" (allowing the wearer enough room to tie a bow). The ribbon is 1cm / 0.3 in width.
CONDITION
The pendant is in excellent antique condition and the ribbon is new. The end of the ribbon has been securing sewn.
